Representation of Black people on screen

Representation of Black people on screen In an add campaign, Netflix says when it comes to Black leading actors, directors, writers, and producers they are being represented. Netflix also says "Its not a moment its a movement". Directors Ava DuVernay and Spike Lee help introduce the streaming service Initiative called "Strong Black Lead" its a promise to represent black audiences authentically, which hasn't always been Hollywood's priority. Early pictures of black people included criminals, slaves, nannies, servants, black face or just plain ignorance. From the mid 1910s -  the 1930s Duke university says "some film companies had some sort of revelation if you will" They in deed dedicated themselves to creating productions with quote "All colored casts" as they promised to write positive diverse roles. After many of the black people moved from the urban to the south Hollywood started to adjust to the changes. In fact what was called the...

End of Audience Theory

End of Audience Theory What is the End of Audience Theory: Audience behavior has changed due to the internet and the ability for audiences to create their own content at home thanks to the lower cost of technology. This new audience doesn’t just consume media, but also produces it – creating the term "prosumer". Amateur content made this way has different values to professional media producers, in that it promotes a connection between other amateur producers. Shirky believes that audiences are no longer passive, as nowadays we are more active audiences who like to interact with media by commenting, liking and even sharing. The adaptability from technology is one of the main reasons why audiences are now active as we sort of expect to be able to share content, which gives us this expectation to have interaction with media that we come across on a day to day level Newspaper and magazine circulation is declining, which is because of how audiences don't like to just read a ma...

CCR

CCR How do your products  represent social groups or issues ? My music video represents love and romance as it is a love song. There is a symbolism of a white wedding dress, and a white T-shirt which represents the commitment and loyalty of love in relationships. Teenagers can be perceived as older kids who have insecurities "I am a little insecure" this can relate to the themes seen in society for many teenagers, but when two people meet its brings a sense of a fresh beginning which is very authentic and meaningful to each other. Class and status can appeal towards the targeted audience as seen in the music video because of how the young audience is able to relate as they all dream about being in a relationship and having this person to love and laugh with. The use of conventions in the music video can be seen as a narrative style as the dancers are dancing and creating a type of story for the audience while creating a mood of love and romance throughout. The other use o...

Hegemony

Hegemony With every new form of media comes a wave of panic about the ‘effects’ it will have on the individual and society. It’s the very simple idea that the media fires messages into our brains; that we are passive consumers of the media who believe everything we are told. Similar to this is the Hypodermic Needle theory; that media messages are injected into our bloodstream. Both of these ideas are ‘Behaviorist’ or ‘passive audience’ theories – simply put, the media have a direct impact on our behavior. Most of us would probably agree that this idea of media consumers as almost lobotomized zombie-people reacting to or copying what we see in the media is both patronizing and utterly ridiculous; and yet it’s still pulled out from time to time to deflect from more serious issues in society. Donald Trump this year insisted that violent video games and films were to blame for the high school shooting in Florida, rather than acknowledge that the problem might be with the America gun laws....

Representation in Hollywood

Representation in Hollywood Article 1 Women make up about 50% of the U.S. population and minorities slightly more than 40%. A majority of the nation’s population will be minorities by 2050, according to U.S. The researchers analyzed 139 films with the highest gross global ticket receipts of 2018. They found that 41.0% of lead roles went to women and 26.6% to minorities. And among all acting roles in those films, 40.4% went to women and 30.9% to people of color. Things improved somewhat in most casting roles in 2019. Women had 44.1% of lead acting roles and 40.2% of the total cast in the 145 films from 2019 examined in the report; people of color made up 27.6% of lead actors and 32.7% of all film roles in 2019. Each year, the report also analyzes the range of cast diversity among the top-grossing movies. In every previous report, films with the least diverse casts — those in which less than 11% of the cast were minority actors — made up the largest share of the top-grossing movies. By 2...

Pitch  This is My pitch with Brianna Hodder. we have taken a zoom meeting recording of us asking questions to people about our idea for our music video, some of the things in the video are not the same as the music video like the dancers they have changed but we have stuck to the same as we said in the pitch to not make a whole different music video.

Branding Research

Image
"How to build an artist profile" It is most likely that your audience is glued to social media regardless of your genre. Instagram has recently passed a billion active users while Facebook boasts about two billion daily active users themselves. These numbers blow the competition of SoundCloud and Bandcamp out of the water. Did you know that YouTube is technically the most popular music streaming service right now, beating Spotify and Apple Music? Making sure you’re set with how to promote your music on YouTube can help ensure you’ve got visibility on the best channels. You shouldn’t worry about doing too much self-promotion given that’s what social media marketing for musicians is all about. For Example. There’s no need to be shy away about whatever is new in your life if it be a new song? Upcoming album? or even getting away and hitting the road? Let your audience know. Consider how to promote your music on Instagram which can be challenging thanks to th...

Digipak Feedback

Image
Digipak Feedback Teacher Feedback: Really like the cartoon / illustrated cover I feel like if you use this style on the front, you need to continue it throughout so there’s some coherence for look ./ feel Can you play around with size and placement of song titles? Font makes some of the words hard to read Love the back cover! Very clever. Again if you go with this, you need to continue this throughout. Possibly make inside cover something really simple and cartoon? Like a big 6? Some song lyrics in the background in that same font? Guitar behind where the CD goes actually works… maybe black and white? Get your details right – make sure every detail of the digipack conventions are on this back – all the album details, production company details, copyright etc. Peers Feedback: Make the song titles more visible, hard to see. Great photos and edits on them. Love the front and back cover. Try to add a photo with all black but one part is colour (Oscars Guitar maybe?) Add more details to the...
